Pete er på skiferie med familien, da en kæmpe lavine rammer bjergområdet. Med nød og næppe overlever alle, men her starter problemerne for alvor. For midt i lavinen stikker familiefaderen Pete af for at redde sig selv, og han efterlader sin kone Billie og deres børn til deres skæbne. Det er en handling, der ændrer parrets forhold markant.
